Mucus Rules: General information about the Mucusless Diet

Mucus Rules

The following is an excerpt from Prof. Spira’s new eBook Spira Speaks: Dialogs and Essays on the Mucusless Diet Healing System, find it HERE.

Greetings Brothers and Sisters!

Below is an excerpt from my soon to be released Ebook on practicing a mucusless lifestyle. These are some general ideas to consider when beginning the transition diet.

Mucus Forming Foods:

    • Meat, Poultry, Dairy, Grains, & Starches
      • Meat, poultry, and dairy are the most dangerous mucus formers and should be avoided from the beginning. I used certain grains and starches, such as well-toasted 100% sprouted wheat bread and 100% wheat spaghetti as early transitionary mucuses, i.e. mucus-lean options.

 Mucusless Foods:

  • Starchless/Fatless Fruits and Green-Leafy Vegetables

Deceptive Mucus Formers:

Here is a list of foods that many people do not realize create mucus:

    • Rice (great for creating glue to bind books, bad for the transition)
    • Avocados (fatty fruit that may be used on the transition, but is highly addictive. It is recommended to stay away from them if you are already not stuck to them.)
    • Nuts (Mucus-forming, but may be used on the transition. It is best to eat with dried fruits like raisins to aid with elimination)
    • Plantains (starchy)
    • Unripened fruits like green bananas (the riper the fruit you eat the better)
    • Corn (it does not eliminate well. When cooked, it gets all mushy in the intestines)
    • Corn chips (some people use it on the transition, but they are very addictive and do not eliminate well)
    • Beans (they are very starchy and mucus-forming. But, they may be used sparingly on the transition in within close proximity to green-leafy salads)
    • White potatoes

List of good transitionary habits to remember:

  • Avoid drinking with meals. If you must drink after a meal wait at least five minutes before doing so. Wait more than 30 minutes if possible. Mixing liquid with solid food impedes the body’s ability to digest and eliminate waste. The body craves simplicity and will eliminate better without such mixtures.
  • Most fruits and vegetables do not combine well. If you are eating a meal with fruits and vegetables eat the fruits first—wait a few minutes, and then eat the salad/vegetables.
  • Eat no more than two meals a day, eliminating breakfast. Aim for an all fruit meal in the afternoon and a combination salad/cooked vegetable meal in the evening. Fresh fruit and/or vegetable juices may be consumed throughout the day.
  • Always combine mucus-formers with salad and vegetables. On days when old mucuses are craved use a transitionary mucus and be sure to include a lot of salad and vegetables.
  • Do not be hard on yourself for craving mucus and eating some. Everyone falls off of the wagon sometimes, especially in the beginning. The key is to change your body’s chemistry so that you no longer crave, or can even eat, the foods that are harmful to you. Mucus becomes about as appetizing as Clorox bleach.
  • Irrigate the colon with a (lemon) enema regularly, or when necessary. (Details for preparing enema in my book Spira Speaks: Dialogs and Essays on the Mucusless Diet Healing System)
  • Surround yourself with supportive people. Misery loves company and eating is the greatest form of social unity known to humankind. Fruits and vegetables seem natural, but people conditioned and poisoned by Western dietary ideals often react with resentment and fear. Plug into positive people who are also interested in healing themselves.
  • Always follow a fast with a period of mucusless menus. Do not break a fast with mucus and be aware of the feeling to binge. If you have transitioned properly and have broken the fast effectively you can avoid such problems.
  • Enjoy the healing process. There is nothing more important than your health!

Interesting, i have enjoyed some videos on your youtube channel.

What is your take on calories ?

In the raw food field it is generally known that you have to eat lots of calories in order to have energy, like the 80/10/10 diet, if you know what i mean.

I know what Arnold is talking about in his V=P+O formula and i have read your article on raw foodism about it but what about deficiencies, quality of water and detoxing poisons like heavy metals, what do they have to do with mucus ?

Would be happy if you could reply.

      Greetings Roman!

I don’t believe in the calorie theory. From Ehret’s perspective, we do not get our energy from food, but from our blood’s ability to absorb and use oxygen. I think that our concept of ‘deficiencies’ needs a total overall as well. Most people who are experiencing symptoms attributed to deficiencies are doing so because of obstruction, i.e. oxygen is not able to get to the our cells properly. They are deficient in absorbing oxygen and not chemistry from foods. Overall, I think that we need to totally rethink these old theories that are based upon wrong concepts of the human body. Most of these old concepts, such as calories, were developed by people who thought that humans were omnivorous. It makes sense that they would develop theories to support their perspective. Yet, it is problematic for modern-day plant-based thinkers to try and adapt faulty theories based upon an omnivoric paradigm. Here is a short excerpt from my eBook Spira Speaks on the calorie theory:

“Calorie Myth—The calorie (c. 1865 deriving from the Latin calor, gen. caloris, i.e. “heat,”) is one of the most erroneous theories to emerge from Western dietetic theory. What is known as ‘food energy’ is defined as the amount of energy obtained from food available through cellular respiration. It should be understood that the founders of this theory based such concepts on their own eating habits. The assumption was that meat, dairy, and starches were obviously the staples of omnivorous Homo sapiens. Such a theory would help to support and rationalize eating in this manner. Yet, as many of us know today through our own experiences, humans are far from biologically being omnivorous. Humans, as a tropical frugivorous species, survived for years without trying to measure the amount of heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius (1 calorie). Such thinking has nurtured a fundamentally flawed notion of nutrition and metabolism. What Western dietitians view as ‘energy’ from food, is nothing more than ‘stimulation’. Energy, i.e. true vitality in the human body, exists only in an internal environment that is free of acidic wastes, mucus, and uneliminated toxic foreign matters. And how is it possible for a ‘so-called’ calorimeter to incinerate food like a human body? It simply does not and it makes no sense to attribute the weight of burnt ash to a human body. The concept of calories is, at best, not useful, and the fanaticism surrounding it unfortunate.”

Worry not what a calorimeter reads,
but consider the amount of mucus waste
      a particular food breeds.

Still lots to learn. The charge with the oxygen may be what our body is requiring with the oxygen being the carrier. Just a thought.

Do you have an all recipe cookbook? I am two days into this. I see some of your recipes like squash but I am allergic to squash. I use to love it. I see other authors but they use dairy products, a lot of nuts and seeds. I want to eat as much mucusless as i can do to my body producing a lot of mucus from sinus and allergies in the air. I am 58 and have been tired of the mucus for a longtime.
