Shower Filter Review: Culligan WSH-C125 Wall-Mount

Shower Filter Review

As a practitioner of Arnold Ehret’s Mucusless Diet Healing System, I’m not only concerned with what I put into my body, but I also care about the harsh chemicals that I potentially allow touch my body on the outside. I’ve practiced a mucus-free lifestyle for over 12 years, and during that time I’ve transitioned to more “natural” products, and usually could immediately tell the difference.

In more recent years, I started becoming more concerned with the quality of my shower/bath water. Since beginning the Mucusless Diet years ago, I’ve have exclusively used store-bought distilled water to drink and cook with. As I cleaned up my nasal cavity from large amounts of mucus, it did not take long for me to be able to smell the chlorine in tap water.

And the couple times I tasted it for educational purpose, tap water was horrid. Some friends did not even believe that I could tell the difference and gave me a blind taste/smell test. I could immediately smell the tap water and refused to drink it.

But what about my shower water? Perhaps it is one of my indulgences, but I do appreciate a nice long, hot shower-bath (after washing I’ll sit in the tub as the hot water comes down on me). Since I do not have access to natural hot springs where I live, I think I try to replicate that experience. But, for years I could smell the chlorine on my skin after I got done bathing.

And I’m surprised that it took me so long to consider a shower filter. I had considered investing in one of the Kohler shower heads because I thought that could help but when I came across a filter, I thought it would be best to try that first.

A year ago I took to Google, Amazon, and Youtube to begin researching shower filters. As you might guess, there were many of them ranging from $20 to $100. I came across the Culligan WSH-C125 and noticed it’s great price and good reviews.

Installation

Installing it was not too difficult. No tools are required to install, although I used a wrench to get my old showerhead off. I found a helpful video on Youtube that I watched to see how to do it. I’d actually watched this video before I bought it because I wanted something really easy to install. I’d never installed a shower head, so did not know what to expect.

Overall, it was simple. I put the plumbers tape on, put the filter in the shower head, and then screwed the whole thing on as per the instructions.

Five Spray Settings to Suit Your Mood

Every thing went fine the first time I turned it on. No leaks where it was connected. I started to turn the showerhead nob to check out the five spray settings. I got in and quickly found the “Full Body Spray” setting that I knew would be the one for me. Other settings include soft rain, invigorating pulse, full body/pulse combo, and full body/rain combo.

Shifting between settings is not completely perfect. I would expect a bit of leaking inbetween, but sometime I needed to mess with the setting to find the sweet spot. Since I do not change the settings all the time, this is no problem for me. I like the full body  spray, so I leave it there. But, if I wanted to change the setting all the time, the process would not be as smooth as I’d like it to be. Overall, this is the main aspect that is less than perfect for me.

Showering

I fell in love with filtered shower water the first time I used it. My skin did not have the customary chlorine odor when I finished and my skin was softer with no hints of dryness. I knew that my $30 investment was well worth it.

Filters

Every six months you are supposed to change the filter. The Culligan WHR-140 Replacement Shower Filter Cartridge for WSH-C125 is about $12 and is easy to install. I actually used the filter a little longer than six months before changing the filter, but everything was fine. The filter never became overwhelmed with waste to slow down the water flow, which can happen if your local water is truly filthy. But, twelve bucks every six months is reasonable to me.

Conclusion

I recommend the Culligan WSH-C125 Showerhead to anyone who wants to avoid the toxic chemicals polluting our tap water. If you are into a plant-based or mucus-free diet, and bath in a tub or shower, I highly recommend shower filtration in general. And if you want a good filter that is not too expensive, give Culligan WSH-C125 a shot.

I like this Culligan WSH-C125 Showerhead, because it is a simple but effective fiter. It is very convinient to change its filter every 6 months. What’s more, my hair and skin are sensitive and such a shower water filter can protect my skin and hair. So great.
